Based on the novel Le Fantome de I'Opera by Gaston Leroux and set in and around the Paris Opera House in 1910, this is a dark, brooding romantic masterpiece which tells the story of the disfigured "Phantom" who falls madly in love with chorus girl "Christine". He will stop at nothing to make her a star... and to make her his. The Phantom of the Opera is a story of passion, desire, murder and sacrifice.

In December 1999 Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical The Phantom of the Opera was hailed as the most successful show of the century following the news that worldwide box office sales had topped $3 billion. A spokesperson for the Really Useful Company Production Company said that this meant that "the Phantom's box office revenues are higher than any film or stage play in history, including blockbusters like Titanic, ET and Star Wars."
